Disease" . CDC advisors recommend that certain persons should
not receive the smallpox vaccine if they have had certain
inflammatory eye conditions including Vaccinia keratitis . As
the government plans to vaccinate some 500,000 healthcare workers,
an advisory committee to the CDC last week stated that people with
any inflammatory disease of the eye or those who recently had eye
surgery requiring steroid therapy wait until treatment is complete
before being vaccinated. Vaccinia keratitis is a viral infection of
the cornea.
